Fossil-Free Steel Takes Center Stage
Bystronic and SSAB Renew Partnership

At Bystronic's Swedish subsidiary in Stockholm, two CEOs put pen to paper on a partnership that reaches beyond typical supplier relationships. Bystronic's Domenico Iacovelli and SSAB’s Johnny Sjöström signed a renewed cooperation agreement focused on co-developing materials and processing technologies for the future of metal fabrication. The ceremony was accompanied by an open house at the Swedish facility, giving local customers a front-row view of what the collaboration actually delivers in practice.
The partnership isn’t starting from scratch. SSAB and Bystronic have already developed Corner Cut technology and the Parameter Wizard tool together – features now embedded in Bystronic’s product line. This renewal expands that foundation into new territory: advanced alloys, recycled steel, and SSAB’s fossil-free steel. For manufacturers navigating tightening sustainability requirements, that combination matters. It’s one thing to source lower-carbon materials; it’s another to actually process them efficiently at scale.
“SSAB is known for manufacturing high-quality materials and is a leader in promoting sustainability in the steel industry,” Iacovelli noted at the signing. “With this new agreement, we support our customers in developing future materials to improve productivity and efficiency.” That's the strategy – companies who can optimize both material innovation and processing technology will have a decisive advantage as the industry shifts toward decarbonization without sacrificing performance.
